I call this a Portrait of my Dad.

A Funny Story

This is obviously Kratos from the video game God of War, not a literal picture of my dad. I made this as a present for my dad. I call it Portrait of my Dad because one, it’s funny they kind of look alike, and two because it was something for him. Also my professor suggested it and I liked the name.

The Original Sketch

I say the original because I changed quite a few things. The hilt of the swords are completely different and his bottom half changed too.

I didn’t just do this for my dad, I wanted to challenge myself with the amount of detail I could put into a bigger painting. This was also my first time ever using oil paint. I wanted to use oil paint because it was the only way I would’ve been able to achieve a particular goal and that was the flame on the swords. Also, in the past when doing portraits I always struggled with the paint drying too fast for me to blend all the different values.

The Progress

I still have one last thing to do

I need to put a top coat on it. I am planning to put epoxy resin on it as the finishing coat so that the colors are more vibrant.
